I'm Elaine.  I am an aspiring writer, artsy fartsy gal, fangirl and dork in southwestern Canada.  I'm so glad you've found my little blog.

C'est moi.

And alphabetizing things.

I married Adam on August 10th, 2013.  He makes me laugh every single day, is the most loving and supportive man I've ever met and is an incredible step-dad to my daughter.  He truly is the man of my dreams.

Adam loves his job, working as an installer for a local sign company.  He's a big fan of auto racing.  He's even tried his hand at racing at the local track (drive fast, turn left).  He's a Freemason.  He loves all forms of geekery, including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly and gaming.  Some of his favourite music is Pentatonix and Lindsay Stirling. Adam also loves bacon.  He does not like horror movies, at all.

Patience is my adult genderfluid child.  Ze is a bundle of laughter.  Ze's smart and sweet and talented.  Ze sings and plays the guitar and writes amazing songs, and does amazing covers of other people's songs.  Ze also writes stories and poetry, draws, acts, and plays ukulele, percussion instruments and a little bit of piano.

Patience loves bad movies, punk, Gorillaz, San Francisco, volunteering, exploring YouTube, and is obsessed with dinosaurs.  Ze is an activist, and a proud member of the LGBT+ community.  Ze is also a vegetarian.

We adopted Delilah from the Humane Society in January of 2013.  She was just over a year old at the time.  She's a shih-tzu cross, but we don't know what she's crossed with.  She's a smart, happy, playful and funny girl.  She loves to give kisses, snuggles, play Keep Away with her toys, and go for long walks in the park, on the beach, or anywhere, really.

She has no idea what we mean when we ask her what it's like in New York City.

I've been using Abstract Sunflower (or some variation of it) as my username across the interwebs since 2004.  How did I come up with it, you ask?  By looking at my foot.

Is it a burning ball of gas?  Is it a meatball in cheese sauce?
No!  It's an abstract sunflower!
The username came from my tattoo of an abstract sunflower on my foot.  My appreciation and love of sunflowers began when I saw The Order, and the character, Mara, had this wonderful description of sunflowers:
I always thought that when God was making beautiful things, He messed up with sunflowers...  They look like crooked teeth around a mouth that's too big, kind of... But just when He was about to start over, He realized that's what made them beautiful. They were a brilliant mistake.
It's a reminder to me that things don't have to be perfect to be beautiful, in fact, sometimes imperfections add to the beauty of something.
